The Kohinur Producer Group from Odisha is transforming lives through economic empowerment. With support from Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) under the SAFAL project, implemented by BAIF Odisha, 19 women from the group began paper plate production as a sustainable livelihood activity in 2023.

Earlier engaged in low-income activities like making badi and running small shops, the women received structured training and technical support to operate machinery, manage production, and handle finances. This initiative has generated an annual income of ?4,00,000, enabling members to support their families and invest in their children’s education.

The group has also fostered social cohesion, encouraging cooperation and inspiring other villagers to pursue similar ventures. With plans to expand and involve more women, Kohinur PG stands as a model of how structured interventions can lead to lasting economic independence in rural communities.
