Clean Energy, Stronger Farms
.
For smallholder farmer Mr. Rabi Mahakud of Mahmamadpur village, Sambalpur, Odisha, sustainable farming now begins right at home. Through the BASUDHA project, supported by Hindalco Industries Ltd. implemented by BAIF, he installed an IRESA biogas system.
By utilizing dung from his six cows, he has replaced the need for LPG and firewood during the monsoon season, saving an estimated ?3,500–?4,000 annually.
The biogas slurry is enriched to provide a better nutrient source, improving soil health, reducing chemical fertilizer use by 25–30%, and enhancing crop yields.
His household now benefits from clean energy, lower costs, reduced drudgery, and climate-smart farming practices, proving how decentralized biogas technology uplifts rural livelihoods.
