In alignment with its Vision and Mission, BAIF Development Research Foundation has adopted the Gandhian approach to rural prosperity. BAIF has been pioneering the mission of positively transforming the lives of underprivileged rural families in India since 1967. Over the last 58 years, BAIF has been committed to providing sustainable livelihoods, fostering environmental stewardship and enhancing the overall quality of life of rural communities. Annually, BAIF impacts about 4 million families across 1 lakh villages in 17 states of India through sustainable land, livestock and water-based livelihood programmes and carbon smart and carbon neutrality programmes. BAIF has been at the forefront in creating innovative models of sustainable development and the value of increased produce through various programmes of BAIF is over INR 28,000 crores (USD 2.8 billion) per annum. The outcomes are directly aligned with a majority of the Sustainable Development Goals.
BAIF Institute for Sustainable Livelihoods and Development, a not-for-profit company registered under Section 25 of the Companies Act 1956 (Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013), is the field implementation division and operates from four Regions – East (Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh), West (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Goa), North (Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh) and South (Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu).
